Four Birthday Candles: A Bird is the Worm site anniversary
There is no possible way it’s been four years since I first turned on the lights here. No. Possible. Way.
It sure doesn’t feel like it. Time has scooted right along, and I’m left wondering how the contrails grew so long reaching out toward the horizon line. It’s been fun and it’s been rewarding and I love discovering cool new music and spreading word of it to anyone who walks through the front door… but damn it’s going by fast.
Each year, my anniversary and my annual January “looking ahead to the new year” posts grow shorter and shorter. For the latter, I’ve finally succumbed to the realization that, for the time being, there’s only so much I can do with the day and the huge bundle of plans I come up with probably aren’t gonna be so simple to see through to completion. For the former, it really just boils down to “thank you.”
Thanks to all the musicians who create this music, thanks to all the people that help get it in the spotlight and thanks to all the readers of my site for lending me your ear and eye day in and out.
I do still have plans for the upcoming months and there will be some changes, but what won’t change is my dedication to finding the best of the best out there (or anything that just sounds interesting or strange or different or “etc”) and laying down some words about it here on this site. I’m all about bringing together listeners with the musicians who are creating new, favorite albums.
That wasn’t nearly as rambling a post as I’ve served up in past years. Consider yourselves spared.
Here’s a video from one of my artists performing a song that appeared on one of my favorite albums of 2015. This is Chris Lightcap’s Bigmouth and their rendition of Velvet Underground & Nico’s “All Tomorrow’s Parties” at the 2014’s NYC Winter Jazz Fest.
Read my write-up of Lightcap’s album Epicenter via this LINK.
And thanks again for stopping by.
Cheers,
Dave

On the air: Tuesday, 6-8pm (EST) on ARTxFM Mingle
Tomorrow night, Tuesday (12/22/2015), I’ll be returning as a guest tonight on the Louisville-based ARTxFM show Mingle, hosted by Kevin Coultas.
I’ll be featuring some of my favorite music from 2015, as well as some new releases that came out just as the year was winding to a close.
The show runs from 6-8pm (EST) on WXOX 97.1 FM. They’re still testing their antenna signal, so if your radio connect isn’t picking it up, then visit this station site page (LINK) to either listen via their embedded audio player or download one of their recommended apps.
And if you can’t check it out live, I’ll be posting the audio archive of the show, as well as some links to write-ups of some of the albums featured on the show.
And, remember, if you’re playing the custom ARTxFM Mingle drinking game… each time I mispronounce a musician’s name, you take a shot. Double it if I also misidentify the correct album title, song title, or geographical location. If I forget either Kevin or my own name, then it’s three shots. Might be a good idea to be proactive and call in sick to work for Wednesday right now.
Cheers.
