These are videos that I like

Today’s featured videos all were selections in my most recent Best of Bandcamp Jazz column, comprised of recordings released in January 2017, and starting the year off in great fashion.

First up is the official promo video for Voices in the Void, the new album by the quartet DR. MiNT.  It features the song “Down To One” and lots of dizzying colors.

Next up is a nifty video from bassist Edward Maclean.  It features the song “Resistance” from his enjoyable new release Me & You.

Today’s featured video comes courtesy of composer Josh Green.  His album Telepathy & Bop was yesterday’s daily recommendation (go read it).

This video is entitled “Bioshock: Infinite Suite (demo),” and based on the note of it receiving a fourth place finish at the 2014 Krakow Film Music Festival, it’s a fair assumption that it’s been scored by Green for the competition.  It also reflects the dizzying series of expressions that mark his enjoyable debut.

Today’s featured videos come courtesy of the Big Pocket Orchestra.  Their self-titled 2016 release was yesterday’s daily recommendation (go read it).

Here’s a promo video for the highlight of the recording… a mash-up of the Desmond-Brubeck tune “Take Five” and the theme song to Game of Thrones.

And here’s a live performance of their mash-up of the theme songs for Peter Gunn and James Bond.  It’s from a 2016 show at Barcelona’s Sala Fènix theater.

Today’s featured videos put the spotlight on vocalist Sissel Vera Pettersen.

Here she is at the National Art Gallery in Copenhagen, as part of the city’s 2011 jazz festival.  She’s performing the song “November” with her trio Equilibrium.  They have two albums that come highly recommended.  Their 2014 release Liquid Light received a nice write-up on this site (go read it) and I gave a strong recommendation for their 2016 live performance recording (go read it at The Bandcamp Daily).

And our second videos is a duet between Pettersen and fellow vocalist Theo Bleckmann.  This performance is at the 2008 Copenhagen Jazz Festival.

Today’s featured videos come courtesy of Nicola Perfetti and Federico Gerini.  Their album La Forma dei Ricordi was yesterday’s daily recommendation (go read it).

Here’s a cool promo that shows pianist Federico Gerini at work creating the music for the album.  The song used for this video is “Nottetempo.”

And here’s another promo for the series, but this time it’s the guitarist Nicola Perfetti, and the album song “Tandem.”

Here’s an interview that’s part of an old crowdsource promo for the Nicola Perfetti and Federico Gerini project “Viaggio nelle città del jazz.”  It uses some music from their album La Forma dei Ricordi.

And here’s a promo for a trio project oof3, which is comprised of Gerini, Perfetti and Massimiliano Furia, who is the drummer on La Forma dei Ricordi.  As you well know, any video that has trains on it automatically gets featured on this site.  However, I’m just now discovering this trio project, and it sounds pretty cool, so you may be reading more about this music in the near future.  For now, however, the video…
