Hey Dave, Yeah 2019 was a pretty damn good year for jazz. I added about 120 albums to my collection this year. I’m trying to find the time to listen to them all (as usual). Looking forward to seeing your top picks as you excruciatingly dribble them out to us! :-). Did you know that Hutchfan from the AAJ forum days has also launched an ambitious project? He’s posting one review a day for a full year of his favorite jazz albums of the 70’s – by date of release, no less. You can check it out here: https://jazzinthe70s.blogspot.com – Pretty awesome! So glad you’re keeping the jazz flame alive!
For you, it’s an excruciating slow pace of four per day. For me, it’s a flood of write-ups that have me in perpetual panic if I can keep up. And, yes, I’m still writing about the albums and even making last minute adjustments. And despite all that, I”m still second-guessing my decision to cut it off at 70. I mean, I’m looking at the 10-15 albums that barely missed the cut, and I can’t even.
I’m checking out HutchFan’s 70s blog right now. I am so going to post something about this thing once the best-of festivities are over. That looks like it’s gonna be fun. I remember many years ago, Darcy James Argue began a fun Twitter thread about jazz-disco albums of the 1970s, and it turned up some real gems. Hoping to find a couple like that on HutchFan’s site, too.
